Zelma Ree Chauncey, 91, of Homerville passed away Saturday morning, January 25, 2025, at River Brook Healthcare Center after an extended illness. She was born on October 13, 1933, in Homerville to the late Nayon (Bull) Smith and Odessa Hendrix Smith. She was a member of Shiloh Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Everal Chauncey; two sons, Clifton H. Davis, Jr “Juke”, Keith Chauncey and one brother Tommy Smith. Zelma Ree and her late husband Everal owned and operated Chauncey Food Market for 33 years and retired in 1988 to fish and enjoy other things they liked to do. She was a devoted mother and Nana who loved her family deeply.
Survivors are one son Jerry Davis (wife) Melinda of Homerville; six grandchildren, Paul Chauncey (wife Barbara), Damon Chauncey (wife Teresa), Greg Davis (wife Christie), Jason Coker, Emily Gilliard (husband Josh), Cale Davis (wife Betsy Anna); 10 great grandchildren, Grace Chauncey, Callie Chauncey, Molly Davis, Maggie Davis, Aliyah Coker, Emma Mohr, Mariella Mohr, Kaceton Davis, Annagail Davis, Koati Davis; one sister: Marcie Brantley (husband, Jimmy) Waresboro, GA; two brothers: Larry Smith (wife Vivian), Homerville and N.B. Smith (wife; Billie Jo), Bryceville, FL; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 12 pm at Shiloh Church with Brother Damon Chauncey and Rev. T.F. Yawn officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 11 until 12 at Shiloh Church.
