Wayne Gordon Clifton

Wayne Gordon Clifton was born November 20, 1947, and passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at his home in Homerville, Georgia. Mr. Clifton was the son of the late Olivia Register Clifton and Barney H. Clifton of Dupont, Georgia. Wayne had a true passion for work. He had many careers during his life but ultimately started his own business, Clifton Underground Construction. He loved waking up early in the morning and heading off to wherever his work took him. Wayne loved animals deeply. He leaves behind eight dogs, one house cat, an unwelcome flock of geese, and all the feral cats at Akin’s Fuel that he has fed every day for the last few years. Wayne worked every day on Clifton Underground projects and home projects; he also enjoyed playing golf in Fargo and took excellent care of his family. Wayne loved his brothers and sisters, and they showed their abundant love for him throughout his illness.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Tyler Clifton, his brother Jimmy Clifton, and his sister Peggy Clifton Rogers.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Betsy Clifton; his stepdaughter, Holly Mullis; one granddaughter, Anna Kate Clifton, and one daughter-in-law, Molly Phlinda Clifton; four siblings: Larry Clifton of Homerville, Gwen Fender of Lakeland, Phyllis Smith (Malcolm) of Homerville, and Roger Clifton (Paula) of Naylor, along with many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Homerville United Methodist Church, 202 South Church Street, Homerville, Georgia, at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, March 24, 2025. A reception in the Social Hall will follow the service.
