James Glen "Sonny" Rigdon, Jr., aged 72, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. He was born on September 19, 1950, in Homerville to the late James Glen Rigdon, Sr. and Lucille Hinson Rigdon. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Bass.
Sonny, or "Spike" as he was affectionately known by his close friends, graduated from Clinch County High School in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Navy. He worked faithfully for nearly forty years for BWAY Corp.
Sonny was an avid outdoorsman, hard worker, and a talented builder. He enjoyed working in his blueberry fields, taking hunting trips with his life-long friends, and caring for his many precious dogs. Sonny was most comfortable in the outdoors, making friends laugh over his childhood stories of growing up as a mischievous boy in Argyle. His close group of friends were like brothers, and they shared many fond memories made while on hunting trips.
Sonny’s survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lauren (Austin) Behle, Savannah, and Martha (Jed) Douglas, Atlanta; son, Seth Rigdon; brother-in-law, John Bass; niece, April (Steve) Gano; nephews, Trey (Patti) Bass, and Jamie Bass, and five grandchildren: Jack Murphy, Thomas Behle, Jude Douglas, Frank Douglas, and Philip Douglas, along with nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery, Homerville.
