Larry Ellis Morrell, Sr., 79, of Homerville passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at UF Health in Jacksonville, FL after a short illness. He was born in Homerville to the late Frank and Sara Beckham Morrell and lived in Homerville and Moultrie, GA all his life. In Homerville, he worked for Capital Theatre and Harper Drugs until he became disabled. Mr. Morrell was a member of First Baptist Church, former member of the Storm Spotter group, and always enjoyed gardening, shelling pecans, and especially talking.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, James Morrell: three sisters, Dollie Mae Sirmans, Betty Sue Baker, and Barbara Ann Hersey.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Minnie Bennett Morrell of Homerville; three children, Sherry Matamoros of Sycamore, GA, Larry E. Morrell, Jr. (Lacee) of Moultrie, GA, and Neil Bennett Morrell of Waycross; seven grandchildren, Teresa Morrell and Lynn Matamoros both of Homerville, Brad, Ayla, Brooke, Luke, and David Morrell all of Moultrie; two sisters, Jo Ann Gilbreth (Bobby) of Lakeland, FL, and Janie Griffis (Tiny) of Homerville; one brother, Terry Morrell (Virginia) of Pearson; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 11 am at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lang Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Roundtree Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses.
