John Herbert Wheeler

July 19, 1923 — March 3, 2020

Mr. John Herbert Wheeler, 96, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at the River Brook Health Care, Homerville, following a brief illness. Mr. Wheeler was born, July 19, 1923, in Ware County to the late Alvin Earl Wheeler, Sr. and Lucy Culbert Wheeler. He was the retired owner of Herb’s Auto, and had worked at International Paper Company. He was past commander of the Clinch County VFW, member of the President’s Club of the University of Georgia and member of the Pi Kappa Khi at the University of Georgia. Mr. Wheeler was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan and attended 74 consecutive Georgia – Florida games and a total of 77 games all together. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Katherine Smith, Ann Dickerson and Elizabeth Hutchinson; three brothers: Earl Wheeler, Frank Wheeler and Alvin Wheeler; niece: Betty Hutchinson; and two nephews: Howard Wheeler & Jo Bill Dickerson. Survivors are a number of nieces & nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Wheeler will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at two o’clock at the Trinity Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 6, 2020 from one untill two p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church.
