Mr. John Lanier “Johnny” Griffis, Sr., 76, passed away Monday, October 7, 2019, in the Clinch Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a short illness. Mr. Griffis, was born August 11, 1943, in Clinch County to the late John Everell Griffis and Jeanette Lanier Griffis. He was the owner of Suwanee Timber Company and was a member and deacon of Edith Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Fargo City Council, Clinch County Board of Education. Mr. Griffis the founder and president of Sweetwater Hunting Club and was very active in the production and cast of The Holy Land play in Fargo. He was preceded in death by a brother: Josh Griffis and niece Jennifer Cooper. Survivors are his wife: Emily Musgrove Griffis, Fargo; one daughter and son-in-law: Emily & Al “Gator” Levings, Fargo; one son and daughter-in-law: John “Bappy” and Bonnie Griffis, Fargo; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Sharon & Paul Cribbs, Valdosta and Clara & Jimmy McMillan, Douglas; four grandchildren: Lanier & Kelly Griffis, Staten & Brooke Levings, Lindsey Levings and Dallas Griffis; four great grandchildren: Brylee Griffis, Hamp Griffis, Bryniee Levings and Mason Levings; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Griffis will be held Thursday, October 10, 2019 at three o’clock at the Edith Baptist Church, Fargo. Interment will be in the Fargo Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019 from two till three p.m. at the Edith Baptist Church. Members of the Suwanee Timber Company and Gator Logging are asked to be Honorary Pallbearers and be at the church at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Edith Baptist Church, P.O. 366, Fargo, GA, 31631, the Fargo Prayer Group, 800 Alfred Griffis Rd., Fargo, GA 31631.
