J.L. Smith

James Lonnie “J.L.” Smith, Sr., 73 of Homerville passed away Saturday morning, November 26, 2022, at South Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in Clinch County to the late Lonnie “Buster” Smith and Ruby Inman Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired Fireman with the City of Waycross and also was a self-employed Painter. He always loved fishing and building things.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one son, James Lonnie “Jamie” Smith, Jr.; maternal grandparents, W.J. and Ethel Vickers Inman; paternal grandparents, Lonnie F. Smith, Sr. and Minnie Viola Smith; one nephew, Johnny William Westmoreland, Jr.

Survivors include one daughter, Shannon Smith of Homerville; four grandsons, Jacob Swearingen, Dalton Swearingen, Bryce Smith, and Dylan Smith; one great-grandson, Brantley Swearingen all of Homerville; three sisters, Ruby Dell Deese (husband Jerry), Ruthell Stalvey, Leila Belle Mathis (husband Wayne) all of Homerville; one brother, Vernell Smith (wife Teresa) of Homerville; nieces and nephews, Terry Stalvey, Dewayne Stalvey (wife Gina), Loraine Burkhalter (husband Joseph), Jeffrey Stalvey, Dawn Rice (husband Billy), Chandler Wayne “Chad” Mathis, Derek Smith, Jessica Moten (husband Seddrick) all of Homerville; several great nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
