Jimmy Powell McLaine, Sr., 81, of Homerville passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Homerville to the late Louie and Eva Griffis McLaine and lived here all of his life. Mr. McLaine was a 1958 graduate of Clinch County High School. He was the owner and operator of McLaine Forest Service and a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. McLaine loved being on his lawnmower, spending time outdoors, playing cards, fishing on the Suwanoochee Creek, and making the best fudge in Clinch County. Most importantly, he was a Godly patriarch to his family.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Powell McLaine, Jr., granddaughter, Macy Angeline McLaine; three brothers, Bobby McLaine, J.L. McLaine, and Nolan McLaine; two sisters, Doris Stiles, and Cecil Ann Steedley.
Survivors include the love of his life of 60 years, Martha Rice McLaine; two daughters, Martha Ann Berlin of Valdosta, and Elizabeth West (Jud) of Valdosta; son-in-law, Robert Berlin of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Chad West (Kelly), Brandon Berlin (Paisley), Harrison West (Tori), Brittany Berlin, Judson West (Emily), Dawson West, and Brooke Berlin; five great-grandchildren, Brice, Kori, Natalie, Liam, and Mila; one brother, Kenton McLaine (June); numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 pm at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 – 7 pm at First Baptist Church.
