Jeanne Lee Gilbert

Roberta Jeanne Shipp Lee Gilbert, 73, of Homerville passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Clinch Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was born in Atlanta, GA to the late James C. and Charlotte Mae Bowman Shipp. Mrs. Gilbert graduated from West Fulton High School in 1967. She moved to Homerville in 1971 and managed the Suwanee Swifty Store and the Huddle House for many years. Mrs. Gilbert was Homerville’s first female police officer, an accomplishment she was very proud of. She enjoyed cooking, painting, was an avid gun collector, and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Chief Truman Lee; and her second husband, Johnny Herman Gilbert; one stepson, Timmy Lee; one brother, Jimmy Shipp.

Survivors include three daughters, Carla Denise Untermoser of Ohio, Cindy Y. Zirkle (husband Russell) of Lakeland, Angela M. Lee of Pearson; one son, Gregory O. Lee (wife Melissa) of Douglas; one stepdaughter, Sandra M. Aldridge (husband Claude) of Waycross; 13 grandchildren, Ashley Untermoser, Emily Untermoser, Benjamin Aldridge, Cameron Aldridge, Rusty Zirkle, Rachel Zirkle, Robert Zirkle, Holly Fitzgerald, Kourtney Mizell, Cody Mizell, Matt Dykes, Haleigh Lee, and Andrew Lee; 3 great-grandchildren, Everly and Emma Zirkle, Ezekiel Dykes; one sister, Geraldine Shipp of Atlanta; several other relatives.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held Saturday morning, Sept. 3, 2022, at 11 am at New Vision Church of God with a time of fellowship following the service.
