James Harold Stalvey, 81, of Dupont passed away Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Clinch County to the late Harold and Alberta Allen Stalvey and lived here most of his life. Mr. Stalvey was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He started his career with Shell Oil Company and after 21 years he brought it to Homerville when he opened Homerville Auto and Tire. After selling the business he started hauling posts and became a hay farmer. He ended his career as a farmer doing what he loved. Mr. Stalvey was a faithful member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God for many years.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, E.W. Stalvey, Elzia Stalvey, Charles L. Stalvey, and Carlton Stalvey.
Survivors include his wife, Lelibeth Pille-Stalvey; two sons, Jimmy Stalvey and Devaune Stalvey and his wife Denise all of Dupont; two daughters, Debbie New and Gina Garrison both of Jacksonville; fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Delk Gibbs and Lawanna Tootle both of Homerville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Julian and Rena Stalvey of Glennville, Rev. Donald and Barbara Stalvey of Homerville, and Dolphus and Ruth Stalvey of Homerville; brother-in-law, Edwin Pille and his wife Letecia of Tampa, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Friday afternoon, May 5, 2023, at 2 pm at Lighthouse Assembly of God. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Lighthouse Assembly of God.
