James Edwin Kirkland, 76, of Jacksonville passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Community Hospice at St. Vincent’s Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Jacksonville to the late Austin John Kirkland and Willie Mae Reddick Kirkland and lived there until 2019 when he moved to the family farm in DuPont, GA. Mr. Kirkland retired as a Dispatcher for Centurion Auto Logistics. James was an avid hunter and member of Olive Leaf Hunting Club. He was loved by many, if you knew James, you more than likely spent time with him in the woods. Memories of nights by the fire will always be cherished.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Louise S. Kirkland, son, Daniel J. Kirkland; daughter, Melissa Alane Smith; two brothers, Charles Franklin Kirkland and Clyde John Kirkland; two sisters, Vera Lynn Bockius and Ann Dedge.
Survivors include one daughter, Heidi Anna McLoughin (husband Raymond) of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Patsy Denise Kirkland, Haley McLoughlin, and Hannah McLoughlin; one brother, William Austin Kirkland of Jacksonville; one sister, Mary Kirkland of Jacksonville; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11 am at the Roundtree Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10 am Saturday morning at the funeral home.
Memorialization is by cremation.
