Iris M. Braswell

Iris Maxine Geiger Braswell, 86, of Cogdell passed away Tuesday evening, March 7, 2023, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Cogdell to the late John Braz and Ernestine Bennett Geiger and lived there most of her life and was the oldest person living there. Over the years she worked at the Cogdell Post Office, the Cogdell Store, and in shoe and garment factories. Most of all she was Mama and Grandma, and she loved cooking, watching people eat and taking care of her family. She was a member of Indian Mound Church where she always loved to go, and always enjoyed singing.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Braswell; one son, Rodney Braswell; two brothers, Billy Geiger and Caren Geiger.

Survivors include two sons, Randy Braswell (Melody Lee) of Cogdell and Ricky Braswell (wife Tammy) of Mershon, GA; two granddaughters, Kayla Finger (husband Davis) of Lavonia, GA and Haley Braswell (fiancé Sam Dunn) of Athens, GA; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 10 am Friday morning, March 10, 2023 at Indian Mound Church. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Indian Mound Church.
