Harry Leo James was born May 8, 1944 and passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 while doing what he loved, visiting longtime friends with the love of his life and wife of over 59 years, Sophronia. He was the son of the late Leo James and Maggie Inman James of Manor. Harry Leo grew up attending school in the small town of Argyle to eventually graduate with the Clinch County High School Class of 1962.
As a third generation farmer, Harry Leo enjoyed a life of bee-keeping and tree-planting. He loved bear hunting, fishing, and feasting on Sophronia’s wonderful home cooked meals. Mr. James was a member of the Jamestown Hunting Club, Lake Vern, Sioux Honey Association, and the Farm Service Agency (FSA). He served on the Farm Bureau board and was named Clinch County’s Farmer of the Year in 2017. Mr. James was self-employed and owner of James Forestry & Honey. He leaves behind 4th & 5th generation farmers to follow in his business. He was a member of the Argyle Place of Blessings Church of God and attended Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Mr. James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sophronia Pittman James; four children, Kim James Hudgins (Horace) of Ocilla, John Derek James (Amanda) of Homerville, Harry Brent James (Lori) of Homerville, Misty James Corbitt (Rick) of Homerville; twelve grandchildren, Garrett Lee Daniel (Rachel) of Manor, Patrick Hudgins (Amanda) of Douglas, Avery, Alex, and Jessica James of Homerville, Lily & Katie James of Homerville, Sophie, Belle, & Tripp Corbitt of Homerville, Kimberly Hudgins of Waverly, Greg Hudgins (Leyna) of Vidalia; eleven great-grandchildren, Gage, Hannah & Luke Daniel, Paisley, Kyler, & Sevi Hudgins, Cruz, Maggie, Lennon, & Greer Hudgins, and Axton James.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 11 am at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Cornerstone Baptist Church.
