Eddie Maurice Minson, 89, of Homerville, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday October 26, 2024 following a short illness. He was born in Valdosta in 1935. His parents were Dave and Katie Minson.
A proud 1953 graduate of Clinch County High School, Eddie furthered his education at the University of Florida before serving in the United States Army. After his service, he returned to Homerville to work alongside his parents at Minson’s Department Store.
In 1960, Eddie married Stella Ann Lee, and together they enjoyed a loving marriage for 60 years until her passing. Over his career, Eddie owned a local business (Minson’s Dept. Store) and later worked at United States Post Office in Lakeland.
An active member of the First Baptist Church of Homerville and the Lion’s Club, Eddie was also a dedicated volunteer coach for local youth sports. He was an enthusiastic golfer, having played over 130 courses, and often participated in tournaments with his son, Lee. Eddie was a passionate sports fan, and attended many sporting events with family and friends. His love for sports began in childhood, where he played football and basketball at Clinch County High, proudly noting he scored the first Panther touchdown in school history. After retirement he and Stella enjoyed visiting friends, classmates and having family time at the beach. Eddie’s sense of humor, generosity, and kindness extended to friends, family, and those needing a helping hand. This earned him friendships across all walks of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Katie Minson, and his beloved wife, Stella Lee Minson. He is survived by his children: Stacy Minson of Valdosta; Lee Minson (Missie) of Lake City, Florida; and Ansley Carmichael (Matt) of Homerville; grandchildren: Samantha Dicks (Clint), Drew Minson, Lance Minson, all of Lake City; Sara Kate Carmichael, Stella Carmichael of Homerville; great-grandchildren, Karleigh Dicks, Kolton Dicks of Lake City; two nephews: Kenneth Lee (Dolly), David Lee, niece, Emily Metcalf (Dave) all of Dupont; as well as many great-nieces and nephews, and a special family friend, Mrs. Carolyn Swinson.
