Derek Lewis

William Derek Lewis, Sr., 55, of Valdosta passed away Thursday evening (October 7, 2021) at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born in Hahira and lived in Lowndes County most of his life. Mr. Lewis served in the Georgia National Guard. He always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Lewis  a sister, Kay Meeler and his grandmother Polly Lewis.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Shelia Altman Lewis of Valdosta; one daughter, Dereka Autumn Lewis Adams (Jeff) of Woodstock, GA; two sons, Hunter Lewis (Haley) of Bainbridge, and William Derek Lewis, Jr. (Serena Mattey Lewis) of Ft. Meade, Maryland; his mother, Jean Lovett Lewis of Lake Park; three step-children, Brittany Geiger (Stuart) of Tallahassee, Destany Middleton of Hahira, and Hunter Middleton of Alabama; nine grandchildren, Lexie, Cole, Mason, Maddi, Hattie, Austin, Gracie, Emma, and Bricen; two sisters, Sherrie Lewis, and Dawn Cannon (Jimmy) of Lake Park; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held Sunday (October 17, 2021) at 12 pm at Park Avenue Seventh Day Adventist in Valdosta.
