Marilyn Claire Griffis McMillan, 72, of Douglas passed away Friday afternoon, February 7, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. She was born in Valdosta to the late John Everell and Jeanette Lanier Griffis and lived in Homerville most of her life. Mrs. McMillan retired from the Clinch County Board of Education as a fourth-grade teacher. She was active in the churches that her husband pastored, St. Illa Baptist Church in Douglas, Edith Baptist Church in Fargo, and Glory Church in Alapaha. Mrs. McMillan enjoyed playing the piano, and teaching Sunday School at those churches. She also enjoyed reading and coloring.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Charles McMillan, Sr.; one daughter, Jennifer Cooper; two brothers, Josh Griffis, Sr. and John “Johnny” Griffis, Sr.
Survivors include two sons, John Jacob McMillan of Douglas, and Jimmy Charles McMillan (wife Rachel) of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Callie Claire Cooper of Douglas, Lee Blaine Cooper, Jr. of Douglas, and Maisie Claire McMillan of Brunswick; one sister, Sharon Cribbs (husband Paul) of Valdosta; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning, February 11, 2025, at 11 am at Edith Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Fargo Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10 am Tuesday morning at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Edith Baptist Church, 133 Edith Baptist Church Rd., Fargo, GA 31631.
