Mrs. Betty Joyce Smith Godwin, 90, passed away Friday Dec. 1, 2023, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Godwin was born Nov. 22, 1933 in Huntsville, AL, to the late James William “Jim” Smith, Jr. and Opel Smith. She had worked for the Georgia Forestry Commission at the fire tower in Cogdell before her retirement. She was a member of the Shiloh Church, The Ladies Prayer Band and loved spending time with her family. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James William “J.W.” Godwin, Sr., one daughter: Carmen Ywoneice Godwin; one son: Dennis Harrison Godwin; one grandson: Robert E. “Bobby” Godwin and two brothers: Jerry Smith and Ray Smith.
Survivors are two sons: James W. “Bill” Godwin, Jr., Lake City, FL, and Demory Godwin (Stephanie), Homerville; one half-sister; Susan Clark, Huntsville, AL; five grandchildren: Alex Godwin (Gayle), Derek Godwin (Kendell), Walker Godwin, Camlynn Godwin, Xander Godwin: two great grandchildren: Jace Godwin and Avery Godwin; two special friends: Patricia Waters and Molly McLaine, and several other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Godwin will be held, Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023 at two o’clock from the Shiloh Church. Burial will be in the New Pine Grove Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, from 6 till 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to the Shiloh Ladies Prayer Band.
