Mrs. Emma Jewell James Smith Corbitt, 86, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, in the Langdale Hospice House, Valdosta, GA, following an extended illness. Mrs. Corbitt was born, August 7, 1924, in Manor, GA, to the late, Frank James and Georgie Estell Lloyd James. She was a homemaker, had worked at Brockway Standard, was a charter member of the Homerville Free Will Baptist Church and a present member of the New Pine Grove Southern Congregational Methodist Church. Mrs. Corbitt was preceded in death by her first husband, Lucius Carl Smith, Sr., three sisters, Mary Cook, Eula Mae Smith, and Laura Bell Cribbs, three brothers, B. G. James, Lewis “Buck” James and Edison James. Survivors are her husband: Rev. W. D. Corbitt, Homerville; one daughter and son-in-law: Ila Marie & Travis Peavey, Sr., Douglas; three sons and daughters-in-law: Carl & Gail Smith, Jr., Homerville, Randy & Felicia Smith, Polan, GA, and Garry & Jane Smith, Sylvester; three step sons and step daughters-in-law: David & Sharon Corbitt, Waco, TX, Steve Corbitt, Manor and Donald & Barbara Corbitt, Hahira; one brother: Charlie James, Homerville; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, 5 step-grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren, and several other relatives. Services for Mrs. Corbitt will be held Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 at two o’clock from the Homerville Free Will Baptist Church. Internment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery The family will receive friends Sunday, November 28, 2010, from 6 till 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Corbitt will be carried to the church one hour prior to the service. Roundtree Funeral Home is serving the Corbitt Family.
