Mr. Roland Kile Colburn, 62, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, in the Veterans Administrative Regional Medical Center, Lake City, FL. Mr. Colburn was born November 19, 1947 in Guin, Alabama, to the late Cecil Colburn and Carrie Elizabeth Bowen Colburn. Mr. Colburn was a member of the Fargo Evangelistic Church, veteran of the U. S. Marines serving as a Corporeal in the 1st Force Recon Division during the Vietnam War. Mr. Colburn worked as a dispatcher and Jail Administrator for the Clinch County Sheriff’s Office and Police Department for over 14 years and was the Commander of The Homerville Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Club for over 25 years. He was the founder of the Swamp County Music Festival Cancer Fund Raiser, and had worked at Brockway Standard for over 25 years as a Certified Metallurgist and was a tool and die maker. Mr. Colburn had only 4 weeks ago had his first book, The Whispering of Kings, published. He was preceded in death by two sisters; Mary Ellen Colburn Carter and Claudine Colburn Usrey. Survivors are his wife of 39 years on Aug. 21, 2010, Sherry Jean Cribbs Colburn, Fargo; one son: Roland Scott Colburn, Fargo; one brother and sister-in-law: Rayburn & Mary Colburn, Homerville; four grandchildren: Christopher Lance Colburn, and Macy Elizabeth Colburn, Big Lake Alaska, Elliss Montana Colburn and Cheyene Johns, both of Zephyrhills, FL; his mother-in-law, Nezzie Cribbs, Fargo and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services for Mr. Colburn will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010, at two o’clock from the Fargo Evangelistic Church. Internment will be in the Wayfare Church Cemetery, Statenville, GA. The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 20, 2010 from 6 pm until at the Fargo Evangelistic Church.
