DuPont, GA Mr. Herbert Edward Register, 81, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 in the Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, GA. Mr. Register was born Dec. 31, 1928 to the late John Martin Register and Catherine Register. He was a graduate of the Lanier County High School Class of 1946, a farmer, timber producer, served on the DuPont City Council for over 30 years and was the Mayor of DuPont at his death. Mr. Register was a retired mail carrier for the United States Post Office, and was a loving & devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Lynette Register Harris and Louise Fender Caldwell and one brother, John L. Register. Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Alva Lee Giddens Register, DuPont; two daughters and a son-in-law: Phyllis A Register, DuPont and Carla R. and John Mabrey, Atlanta; three sons and a daughter-in-law; Phil Register and Martin Register, both of DuPont and John A. and Amy Register, Atlanta; five grandchildren: Dillon, Mabrey, Kenzie Mabrey, McKenna Johnson, Tessa Register and Catherine Johnson all of Atlanta, one sister-in-law: Lois Giddens Zittrauer, Waycross; one brother-in-law: William Harris, Valdosta; several nieces and nephews and other relatives. Services for Mr. Register will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at four o’clock from the Roundtree Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will be in the North Cemetery, DuPont. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 till 9 at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.roundtreefuneralhome.com.
