Homerville, GA Mr. Horace Jefferson Whittington, 78, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the Clinch Memorial Hospital. Mr. Whittington was born June 30, 1931, in Clinch County, to the late Winder Jefferson Whittington & Emma Williams Whittington. He was a self-employed Logger for Bennett-Whittington Logging Co., a member of the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church, and had a passion for fishing and hunting. Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by two brothers: J.W. Whittington & Chesley “Buddy” Whittington; four sisters: Lillian Corbitt, Ethel Cothran, Marlene Duchen, & Onice Johnson. Survivors are his wife: Myrtle Bennett Whittington, of Homerville; a daughter & son-in-law: Gail & Ronnie Gilliard, of Homerville; two sons & daughters-in-law: Glynn “Weasel” & Lynn Whittington, of Homerville, and William J. “Billy” & Deborah Whittington, of Valdosta; five sisters & a son-in-law: Ruth Zencik and Fonella Skinner, both of Jacksonville, Doris Taylor, of Brunswick, Janice & Dempsey Bennett, of Homerville, & Elva Kassamali, of Hoboken; Six grandchildren: Chris & Stacy Kendrick, Roy & Michelle Burkett, Zack & Gigi Kendrick, Roy & Shanna Lankford, Jeff Whittington, & Annie Whittington; four great-grandchildren: Zoe & Ivy Kendrick, Brooks Burkett, & Baby Girl Lankford; & several other relatives. Services for Mr. Whittington will be held Friday, October 30, 2009, at three o'clock from the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church. Internment will be in the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from the Roundtree Funeral Home, Thursday, October 29, 2009, from 7pm til 9pm. Mr. Whittington will be carried to the church one hour prior to services. Roundtree Funeral Home is serving the Whittington Family.
