Mr. Virgil Greene Melton, Sr., 92, passed away, Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at his residence, following an extended illness. Mr. Melton was born March 14, 1924, in Homerville, Georgia to the late Israel Greene Melton and Nancy Elizabeth Deloach Melton. He worked for Georgia Pacific Paper Company as a machine operator until his retirement at age 62 then as a bee keeper until he turned age 85. He was a faithful member and deacon of the Shiloh Fellowship Church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou Hilliard Melton; one daughter: Lillian Melton Smith; three sisters: Juanita Cribbs, Bertha Douglas and Ava Nell Steedley; three brothers: Aaron Melton, Farris Melton and Acline Melton. Survivors are two sons and daughter-in-law: Virgil Melton, Jr and his friend, Norma Watson Smith, Homerville and Jim & Ruth Melton, Irwinville, GA; two sisters: Nezzie Cribbs, Colon, GA and Clinnie Williams, Homerville; one sister-in-law: Evelyn Melton, Homerville; three grandsons and one granddaughter; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Melton will be held Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at eleven a.m. at the Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Wayfare Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Melton will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services.
