James William "J.W." Godwin, SR.

Homerville, GA Mr. James William “J.W.” Godwin, Sr., 78, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Veterans Administrative Hospital, of Lake City, FL. Mr. Godwin was born July 20, 1930, in Clinch County, to the late Albert Harrison Godwin & Edith Snowden Godwin. He was employed by Rayonier as a heavy equipment operator, a member of the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by a daughter: Carmen Ywoneice Godwin; a son: Dennis Harrison Godwin. Survivors are his wife of sixty years, a native of Huntsville, AL: Betty J. Smith Godwin, of Homerville; two sons & a daughter-in-law: James W. “Bill” Godwin, Jr., of Washington, DC, Demory & Stephanie Godwin, of Homerville; one sister: Milre Campbell, of Homerville; 5 grandchildren: Robert R. Ellis, James Alexander Godwin, William Derek Godwin, Walker Shane Godwin, & Camlynn Lacole Godwin; and several other relatives. Services for Mr. Godwin will be held Friday, May 22, 2009 at three o’clock from the Shiloh Congregational Methodist Church. Internment will be in the New Pine Grove Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, May 21, 2009, from 7 til 9pm, at the Roundtree Funeral Home. Mr. Godwin will be carried to the church one hour prior to services.
