Homerville, GA Mr. George Owen Griffis, 82, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, in the Clinch HealthCare, Homerville, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness. Mr. Griffis was born Aug. 29, 1933, in Homerville, GA to the late Arthur Griffis and Estella Highsmith Griffis. He was retired from the State of Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #224, the New Pine Grove Southern Congregational Methodist Church and was a proud supporter of Clinch County Athletics. He enjoyed attending football, basketball and baseball games of the Clinch County Panthers until declining health forced him to stopped going. He enjoyed drinking coffee with his Huddle House Buddies every afternoon and fishing at Lake Verne. He was preceded in death by five sisters: Rheuma Griffis, Mae G. Booth, Inez G. Bennett, Thelma G. Maxwell and Lunette G. Ritch; and three brothers: J. T. Griffis, Jack Griffis, and Elroy Griffis. Papa George’s main purpose and love of his life was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors are his wife: Sarah Teston Griffis; two daughters & sons-in-law: Karla & Wade Daniel and Kristi & Jim Dickerson; one step son: Clay Lloyd; one sister: Rubye Griffis Sims; four grandchildren: Ryan (Tina) Daniel, Chase (Brooklyn) Daniel, Trey Dickerson and KristiAnna Dickerson: four great grandchildren: Grayson Daniel, Cathryn Daniel, Braelyn Daniel and Nora Daniel; one step grandson: Clayton Lloyd, all of Homerville and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Griffis will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at eleven o’clock in the New Pine Grove Southern Congregational Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Tuesday Nov. 24, 2015, from 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
