Homerville, GA Rev. Marvin Daniel Smith, 84, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, in the Baptist Village, Waycross, GA, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness. Rev. Smith was born June 21, 1931, in Homerville, GA to the late Leonard Moultrie Smith and Gracie Lee Booth Smith. He owned and operated Marvin Smith Grocery for many years and was a member of the Homerville First Baptist Church. He was an ordained Baptist minister for over 60 years. He had pastored Pineland Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Church, Hickox Baptist Church, New Union Baptist Church, Emerson Park Baptist Church, Liberty Baptist Church, Sardis Baptist Church and Edith Baptist Church. He had preached and ran revivals in over 100 churches in South Georgia. He was a past member of the Alapaha Soil and Water Conservation Board, the HUD Board, Baptist Ministers Association and the Homerville Exchange Club. He was preceded in death by his wife: Hazel Marjorie Crews Smith; one brother: Lamar Smith; two sisters: Alma Lee Smith and Latricia Millirons. Survivors are two sons & daughters-in-law: Lee M. & Karen Smith, Valdosta and Kenneth & Abigail Smith, Homerville; one sister-in-law: Clara Smith Harper, Homerville; one brother-in-law: Carlos Crews, Lake City, FL; five grandchildren: Jared A. Smith, Hailee & Colby Yates, Angela G. Smith, Justin (Katie) Smith and Zachary Smith; three great grandchildren: Braylon Hicks, Mary Kate Smith and Brody Smith; one aunt: Alma Smith Hinson, Homerville; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services for Rev. Smith will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at one o’clock in the Homerville First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, from 6 til 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Condolences to the family may be conveyed at the online registry at www.roundtreefuneralhome.net.
