Atheline was a very gifted seamstress, crafting and making clothes for children and taking in alterations for the residents of the Lyons area. She served many years as an American Red Cross armed forces caseworker where she ensured delivery of emergency communications to military families. Education was a great passion of Atheline’s. She worked as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School at the Lyons First Baptist Church for several years, but always longed to be a full time teacher. She was able to realize that dream when she became a teacher’s aid at Lyons Elementary School. She held that position for 25 years, retiring at age 75. Atheline instilled this same passion for education in her six children seeing that each one had the opportunity to earn a college degree and to go on to a successful career. Each invested time in teaching with some dedicating their entire careers to the field of education. Atheline will be interred next to her husband at the Pine Forest Cemetery in Homerville, GA, following a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015.
