Homerville, GA Mrs. Sarah Frances Barnhill Bessonette, 84, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015 in the South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, GA, surrounded by her loving family, following an extended illness. Mrs. Bessonette was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Homerville, GA, to the late Alfonso Leo Barnhill and Olivia Dame Barnhill. She was a member of the Homerville First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Choir, and had taught Sunday School. She had attended the University of Georgia where she received a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Music and she received her Master’s Degree in both Elementary Education and Library Science from the University of Georgia and Valdosta State University. She had taught 37 years for the Clinch County Board of Education and then worked at the Fargo School, The First Baptist Church Kindergarten and the Clinch County Public Library. She was preceded in death by one sister: Rosalind Olivia Barnhill Ogletree and one infant brother: Albert Barnhill. Survivors include one daughter: Sarah A. “Sally” Bessonette, Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law: George & Carlena Bessonette, Homerville; one sister: Martha Barnhill Denton, Homerville; one brother: George Dame Barnhill, Brantley County; two grandchildren: Erin Rebecca Bessonette & Emily Anne Bessonette (husband, Eric) Leccese; six great grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mrs. Bessonette will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at two o’clock in the Homerville First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Bessonette will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services.
