Homerville, GA Mr. Joel Donald Lee, 84, passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 in the Langdale Hospice House, Valdosta, Georgia, following an extended illness. Mr. Lee was born April 8, 1930 in DuPont, Georgia to the late Adolphus Dakota Lee and Callie Mae Futch Lee. He graduated from Clinch County High School in 1947 and attended South Georgia College in Douglas and Valdosta State College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He worked for Slash Pine before entering the U. S. Air Force. In 1958 Mr. Lee went to work for Standard Container Company as office manager and purchasing agent, in 1960 he became Assistant Treasurer and in 1988 he retired as Administrative Vice President. After his retirement he purchased the plastic blow molding division from Brockway, which is now Lee Container Corporation, a family held corporation with plants in Homerville, Nacogdoches, TX and Centerville Iowa. He was a member of the Homerville First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laurelle Johnson Lee and two brothers, Callaway Lee and Terry Lee. Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law: Eve & Bill Murray and Layne & Robert Varnedoe, Homerville, Georgia; two sisters: Betty Lee Mull and Jane Lee, both of DuPont, Georgia; six grandchildren: Laura Lee & Danny Smith, Joel & Sarah Varnedoe, John Varnedoe, Trey & Jennifer Murray, Ben Murray and Ross Murray; five great grandchildren: J.D. Smith, Callie Smith, Sam Smith, Marissa Smith and Daniel Smith and several other relatives.. Funeral services for Mr. Lee will be held, Monday, October 20, 2014, at two o’clock in the Homerville First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the North Cemetery, DuPont GA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 4 until 7 p.m. at Homerville First Baptist Church.
