Homerville, GA Mr. Charles Fred Chewning, 77, passed away Friday, Apr. 11, 2014 in the Clinch HealthCare, Homerville, following an extended illness. Mr. Chewning was born May 15, 1936 in Edison, GA to the late Charlie Chewning and Mattie Mae Sauls Chewning. He was a maintenance worker for Design Space and was a member of the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Lucile Strickland, Laura Mosley, and Edith Thornton and two brothers: Chester Chewning and Eugene Chewning. Survivors are his wife: Connie Taylor Chewning, Homerville; three sons & Daughters-in-law: Freddie & Faye Chewning, Jacksonville, FL, Randy & Johnnie Pat Gilliard, Homerville and William & Nancy Gilliard, Lakeland, GA; two daughters & sons-in-law: Alline & Jeff Mohler, Silver Springs, FL and Lisa & David Ashe, Sylvia, NC; three sisters: Mildred Taylor, Dean Seagle and Linda Fay Midyette; three brothers: Jessie Chewning, Carlton Chewning and Floyd Chewning; nineteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Graveside services for Mr. Chewning will be held Monday, April 14, 2014 at eleven o’clock from the Shiloh Church Cemetery.
