Donald (Donnie) Gene Pope

Eagle Pass, TX and Homerville, GA Rev. Donald Gene (Donnie) Pope, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. He will be remembered for his tireless effort and support of his fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ, his love for people in general, especially his family. Donald was born January 15, 1941 to Lila and Robert Bern Pope, Sr., in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from Central High School in Jackson, MS, he attended Westminster College Bible Institute, in Tehuacana, TX. He started his calling preaching the word of God for the first time at the young age of 18. On July 2, 1965 he married Glenda Teston. He served for 54 years as pastor and missionary for 44 years in several churches in Texas, Georgia and most recently in New Mexico. In 1973 he started the Church Word Of Life in Eagle Pass and pastured for over 16 years, until he moved to New Mexico. Pastor Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Lila and Robert Bern Pope, his brother, Ronnie, and his sister, Bonnie. He is survived by his wife: Glenda Teston Pope, sons: Bernie and wife Jennifer, Glynn and wife, Angela and Jeffrey and Teresa; 10 grandchildren: Wesley, Elena, Michael, Melissa, Madison, Bennett, Andrew, Hanna, Emmanuel and Robbie Pope. Funeral services for Rev. Pope will be held Friday, July 26, 2013 at ten o’clock from the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday July 25, 2013, from 6 till 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made in the memory of Rev.
