Fargo, GA Mr. George Lester “Buck” Hughes, 77, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 in the Langdale Hospice House, Valdosta, GA, following a brief illness. Mr. Hughes was born Dec. 1, 1935 in Clinch County, GA to the late Walter “Red” Hughes and Catherine Corbitt Hughes and lived in Clinch County all of his life. He was retired from Champion Paper Company as a Senior Forester with 47 years of service, after his retirement he worked for Hughes Tree Planting and Hughes Berries. He was a member and deacon of the Edith Baptist Church and a former Citizen of the Month. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ray Alton Hughes and Harry T. Hughes. Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Lee Tutt Hughes, Fargo; two daughters and a son-in-law: Penny & J.C. Smith, Homerville and Leanne Guest, Brinson, GA; one son and daughter-in-law: George G. & Kalynn Hughes, Homerville; one sister: Mary Catherine Fudge, Debray, FL; one brother: Walter C. Hughes, Branford, FL; one sister-in-law: Sue Easters, Valdosta; one brother-in-law: Walter Tutt, Valdosta; five grandchildren: Halee Hughes, Kaitlin Smith, Jacob Smith, B.J. Guest and Karlee Guest; and a number of other nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Hughes will be held Thursday, June 27, 2013 at eleven o’clock from the Edith Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Fargo Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hughes will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services.
