Homerville, GA/Jacksonville, FL Mrs. Dovie Velma Davis Smith, 95, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, in the Earl B. Hadlow, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Mandarin, FL, following a short illness.. Mrs. Smith was born May 11, 1917, in Lowndes County, number three of nine children, to the late Willie Burton Davis and Della Floye Davis. She was a member of the New Vision Church of God where she served as Sunday School Teacher for the 9-12 year old Boys Class for many years and was a member of the Ladies Willing Worker Band. She retired from Brockway Standard in 1979. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maitland Smith, two sons-in-law: Joe Watson and Harold Rubel, four brothers: H. C. Davis, Frank Davis, Woodrow Davis and Lloyd Davis; three sisters Grace Tomlinson, Esther Smith and Tempa Mae Davis. Survivors are her three children: Dovie Lynn Watson, Middleburg, FL, Ashley Maitland & Eleanor Smith, Valdosta, GA and Gilda Jeanette Rubel, Middleburg, FL; six grandchildren: Carmia Korn, Kim Watson, Amy Bream, Kristen Smith & fiancée, Jimmy Ross, Dennis & Jennifer Rubel and Alaina Rubel; two step grandchildren: JaredCrosby & Jeremy Crosby; six great grandchildren: Ashley Hawkins, Zakkary Hillyard, Roman Bream, Autumn Bream, Maci Bream and Jacob Rubel; thre step great grandchildren: Madison Crosby, Jonathan Croxby & Jordan Crsoby: one great great granddaughter: Aliya Henry-Geiger; one sister: Rusha Douglas, Homerville and several other relatives. Services for Mrs. Smith were held Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at eleven o’clock from the New Vision Church of God. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Baldree. Interment was in the Pine Forest Cemetery. W. G. Smith sang How Great Thou Art, the congregation sang, I’ll Fly Away and sang O Come Angel Band. Sympathy maybe expressed by signing the online registry at www.roundtreefuneralhome.net.
