Homerville, GA Mr. Joseph Montresser “Tresser” Coon, 72, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family after an extended battle with cancer. Mr. Coon was born Dec. 12, 1939, in DuPont, GA to the late Robert Montresser Coon and Emeda Register Coon. Mr. Coon was retired from the Department of Corrections, was a charter member of the Homerville Exchange Club and a member of the Homerville Free Will Baptist Church. He was owner/operator of Coon’s Department Store, for many years. He was preceded in death by one infant brother: Robert “Bobby” Marcus Coon. Survivors are his wife: Vernice Davis Coon, Homerville; sister-in-law & brother-in-law: Alverna & Ivy Fender, Albany; niece & nephew-in-law: Melanie & Mike Pettit, Mary Esther, FL; two nephews & niece-in-law: Mike & Sylvia Davis, and Adam Davis all of Valdosta; two great nieces: Allison Pettit, Mary Esther, FL and Haley Davis, Valdosta; two great nephews: Trey Davis & Tyson Davis, Valdosta and several other relatives. Services for Mr. Coon will be held Monday, July 23, 2012, at three o’clock from the Homerville Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Roundtree Funeral Home. Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
