Homerville, GA Mr. James Solomon “J. S.” Maine, Jr., 100, passed away Saturday, Mar. 31, 2012, in the Lakehaven Nursing Home, Valdosta, GA, following an extended illness. Mr. Maine was born July 7, 1911, in Lowndes County to the late James Solomon Maine, Sr. and Carrie Carter Maine. He was retired from the Clinch County Road Department as a road grader operator with 42 years of service and was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one sister: Cleo Zeigler; and two brothers: Kenneth Main and Robert Maine. Survivors are his wife of 76 years: Laura Griffis Maine, Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law: James Woodrow & Lynn Maine, Valdosta; three granddaughters & grandsons-in-law: Kim & Ken Corbett, Lake Park, Laurie & Jonathan Hancock, Valdosta and Jennifer & Travis Dees, Lake Park; six great grandchildren: Justin & Brandi Corbett, Jessica Corbett, Jared Corbett, all of Lake Park, Garrett Hancock, Valdosta, Jake Dees and John Parker Dees, both of Lake Park; and several other relatives. Services for Mr. Maine will be held Tuesday, Apr. 3, 2012, at two o’clock from the Chapel of Roundtree Funeral Home. Internment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, Apr. 2, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Roundtree Funeral Home. Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
