Mr. Samuel B. Strickland, 86, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2011 in the Hospice House Satilla, following an extended illness. Mr. Strickland was born October 7, 1925 in Nichols, GA to the late William Louis Strickland, Sr. and Mattie Lenora Anderson Strickland. He was a mill right for Quality Construction before his retirement and was a charter member of the Knight Island Hunting Club. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II where he received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and a Five Oak Leaf Cluster. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orby Ray Strickland, Willie J. Strickland and William Louis Strickland, Jr. Survivors are his wife: Bessie Trowell Strickland, Homerville: one daughter and son-in-law: Rita & Gary Harper, Orange Park, FL; one son and daughter-in-law: Robert & June Strickland, Blackshear; two sisters: Erma Rea Cox and Mary Lee Tatum, both of Homerville: five grandchildren: Kimberly & Kevin Rodgers, Waycross, Bubba & Anna Strickland, Blackshear, Laney & Crystal Strickland, Mt. Holly, NC, Brittany & Shayan Sohbatzadeh, Gainesville, FL, Stewart & Anell Harper, Orange Park, FL; five great grandchildren: Rinzi Strickland, Siara Strickland, Allison Alford, Seth Strickland, Halee Strickland and Dylan Rodgers and several other relatives. Services for Mr. Strickland will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at two o’clock from the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church. Internment will be in the Shiloh Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Roundtree Funeral Home. Mr. Strickland will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services.
