Mary Lightsey Smith June 16, 1923 - July 5, 2011 Homerville, GA Mrs. Mary Lightsey Smith, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011 in the South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, GA, following a brief illness. Mrs. Smith was born June 16, 1923, in Echols County to the late Jessie Lightsey and Callie Vann Lightsey. She had lived in Homerville for the last 40 years, was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Smith was a great cook and was an avid gardener and loved to fish. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Smith, one son, Johnny Seago, one brother, Vernon Lightsey, one great grandchild, Caiden McMillan. Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law: Joann & J Pat Mitchell, Palm Beach, FL and Mary Lynn & David McMillan, Homerville; three sons and daughters-in-law: Gene & Sandra Seago, Valdosta, Mike & Barbara Seago, Hahira and Tony & Angeleon Seago, Valdosta; one stepdaughter and step son-in-law: Nancy & Larry Herrin, Baldwin, FL; one sister and brother-in-law: Dorothy & John Bostic, Lowndes County; one sister-in-law: Joann Lightsey, Echols County; eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Graveside services for Mrs. Smith will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011 at eleven o’clock in the Carter Cemetery, Echols County. The family will receive friends Friday, July 8, 2011 from 6 till 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
