DuPont, GA Mrs. Mary Kate Morgan Herndon, 79, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, in the South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, GA, following a brief illness. Mrs. Herndon was born Nov. 22, 1931 in Homerville, GA to the late Henry Clay Morgan and Alma Dame Morgan. She was retired from the Clinch County Board of Education with 35½ years as an Elementary School Teacher. She was a former member of the DuPont Baptist Church and presently a member of the Homerville First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Clinch County Retired Teacher’s Association, Georgia Retired Teacher’s Association, Friends of the Library, DAR, VSU Alumni Association and the Circle of Friends of Dr. David Jeremiah. She was the widow of James Joseph “Joe” Herndon, Sr. Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law: James J. & Gloria Herndon, Jr., DuPont; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law: James J. & Shannon Herndon, III, Dallas, GA and Dennis P. & Casey Herndon, Valdosta, GA; two great grandchildren, Devin Herndon, Myrtle Beach, SC and Knox Herndon, Dallas, GA; two step granddaughters: Anglia Carroll and Jamie Carroll, Waycross; five step great grandchildren, her precious dog, Dolly and several other relatives. Services for Mrs. Herndon will be Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at 2 o’clock from the Homerville First Baptist Church. Internment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 till 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Herndon will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. Mrs. Herndon request in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Homerville First Baptist Church or the Gideon’s.
